Your child's school attendance target this year is 100%.

It is the law that your child attends school everyday. If your child does not attend school it must be for a justifiable reason. Only the school’s headteacher can authorise absence.

If your child is going to be absent, for whatever reason, you must call the school and speak to the deputy headteacher of the site that child attends. If the school does not receive a phone call from you by 9:30 your deputy headteacher, or a designated site leader will contact you to find out reasons for your child’s absence.

Poor attendance will be investigated by the school and where the school is not satisfied with a student’s attendance, parents/carers will be invited in for meetings and your child’s deputy accompanied by another member of staff will make a home visit to first discuss any problems.

If your child is persistently absent from school, the parent/carer could face a penalty or statutory action.

It is our request as a school that all medical appointments are kept out of school hours, although we do understand that sometimes this cannot be avoided.

At Spring Hill High School, we truly believe that every school day counts towards your child's future.

Days off school add up to lost enjoyment, achievement and learning.

We appreciate it when families use the 175 non-school days a year for time together, family visits, holidays, days out and routine appointments where possible.

“Although attendance for a small number of pupils remains low, most pupils’ attendance improves considerably while at the school.”

Managing Attendance and Punctuality

At Spring Hill High School we manage punctuality and attendance through the school’s Responsibility Points system.

Responsibility Point 1 states that students are to be on time and ready to start. Students who are late without valid reason would have given up the Responsibility Point for choosing to come into school late, unless a parent/carer informs the school of a justifiable reason for the absence or lateness. The school only accept reasons for absence or punctuality from a parent/carer.

A student who chooses to give up their points, also gives up the reward that is associated with keeping the points.
